Email consent

How we handle commercial email under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). This is a working draft pending final legal review.

Express consent, twice over

We only send launch and marketing email to people who asked for it. The waitlist form requires an explicit consent checkbox, and we then send a confirmation link you have to click. Until you click it you receive nothing further. That double opt-in is deliberately stricter than CASL requires, because a list nobody wanted is worthless.

Who is writing

Every message identifies Vera Circle, includes a working postal address and a reply-to address that a person monitors, and never disguises its sender or subject.

Two kinds of email

  • Transactional: booking confirmations, check-in and completion notices, receipts, dispute updates, password and security messages. These are part of the service you asked for and cannot be switched off while your account is active.
  • Commercial: launch announcements, area openings, founding invites and product news. These require your consent and can be switched off at any time.

Unsubscribing

Every commercial email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works without logging in, and we action it immediately rather than within the ten days CASL allows. You can also unsubscribe here or change your notification preferences in the app.

Unsubscribing from commercial email does not delete your account. To remove your data entirely, see the deletion section of our privacy policy.

Records

We keep the timestamp, source and IP hash of each consent so we can demonstrate it if asked. Consent records are retained for three years after the consent ends, as CASL expects.
